Starting from November 28, the railway authority has introduced online identity verification services for foreign passport holders. Previously, foreign travelers needed to present their passports at railway station windows for identity verification when purchasing tickets on the 12306 website (including the App). With the introduction of online identity verification services for foreign passport holders, travelers can now log in to the 12306 website (including the App), and follow system prompts to fill in information such as name, nationality, and document number, with the system automatically verifying their identity. Travelers can also choose to submit photos of the information page of their passport for manual verification by the system’s backend. In addition to online verification, travelers can still go to railway station windows for verification.
The railway authority advises that foreign travelers can only purchase tickets and travel after passing identity verification. Passport holders should promptly check their identity verification status and complete the process to avoid any impact on ticket purchases and travel. More service information can be obtained through the 12306 website (including the App).
